We Have Sunshine, Yippee

Finally we have sunshine—it and the wind really got rid of lots of our mud today!

I’m not really sure what I accomplished today—talked to the guys at the 3G Store about routers.  We have a Cradlepoint router for use with our Verizon aircard when in the motohome.  At home we have DSL from the local telephone cooperative and use a router/modem combo.  Malone commented the other day:

“Comment on the new computer...I got a new Dell with Windows 7, and I had a lot of trouble getting it to connect and stay connected. Turned out to be my older router. I got a new one and it all works slick and fast now. Might be some compatibility between older routers and Windows 7 which has more secure connections”

So with that in mind and the fact our router is probably 4-5 years old, I began researching routers hoping to find something that would work for both places, home and motorhome.  Because our DSL comes into our house via a regular phone line I would have to have both a modem ($40) and a 3G router ($179).  Called our telephone company tech support—great guys and very knowledgeable.  The tech talked me out of a new router for the time being until we get the laptop back—could be an issue between the computer and the security settings on the router.  He had some other great suggestions as did Rick.  Maybe between all of us we can keep Michael’s new laptop connected.

We had pan seared tilapia for lunch with roasted potatoes and green beans, Michael has decided he can eat fish a couple times a week—I’ve been reading the Mediterranean Diet Cookbook which advocates less meat in your diet with  more vegetables and fish.  Michael is trying it!

I also did some cleaning in the motorhome today, you know Rollie and Gina will be here before we know it!  Michael puttered around all day, cleaning and picking up—going to measure a Geoff and Nancy project—playing with Emmi.

So, I guess we did get something accomplished!

  1. Sunshine really improves how one feels! :)

  2. We had sunshine here as well - glorious!

We use the Verizon Mifi for home and in the motorhome. We can't get anything else out here where we live - no cable, no dsl, no wireless - I guess we could use satellite, but this is less expensive. We like it fine - and it is easy (tiny) to take anywhere - we even use it on car trips. It will connect up to 5 wireless computers or whatever.

  3. Yay for the sunshine, it looks beautiful. You know, sometimes it feels like you haven't done much until you start listing it. You obviously got a lot done! It will be nice if everything works without having to buy a new router. Comments! Comments! we are making comments and it is working!! (still using chrome to make it work, however, LOL)

  4. Sounds like you talked to a good tech at the phone company. Anytime they recommend against selling you new hardware, you can bet they probably do know what they're talking about.

I'll be very interested to hear how the laptop works when Michael gets it back.

  5. I always wonder at night what I have accomplished. It sometimes seems as if it's not much but I'm doing something all day long. Don't sit around much. I think it's the gremlins again that steal the time ☺

  6. Another sunny day up here too..keeping our fingers crossed. We just enjoy our wireless modem and router all year round and dream of the day that DSL comes to the Northern Ranges.

  7. Happy sunny day to you both!..we had it all..sun cloud and now rain!..and one wet dog..just got back from the park! the smell of a wet dog in a small space!

  8. I'm not sure what you need to clean because I have never seen anything of yours dirty. I also wanted to say thank you for your blog entry on Monday. Memorial Day is special to us and I'm glad that it means a lot to you and Michael too. Tell your granddaughter thanks for her service. We miss y'all. However, we'll be seeing y'all real soon.
    Love & Hugs,
    Rollie & Gina

  9. The roads through Hardin seem to have dried up also. Now if Roundup will get out of the water so we can go up to Hell Creek. Keep that sun shining coming. Fingers crossed for Michael's laptop.
