We Take A Drive

Michael was in need of a road trip—off we went after walking Ms. Emmi around the park—she of course went along.  We went to Port O’Connor, a little seaside community with lots of what appeared to be summer homes, Port Lavaca, and Palacios, a shrimping community with old stately homes and businesses.

IMG_6251This was a hotel, the entire building was sagging and made you wonder if occupancy would be safe???

One of the reasons for going to Palacios was to eat at the Outrigger Bar and Grill—reviewed as a great place to eat in this little tiny town—it was closed, open only Thursday through Saturday!!!  Bummer!  We ate in a so/so Mexican restaurant and my food haunted me all afternoon! Sad smile

There were lots and lots of shrimping boats in the Palacios harbor—one was even named, “Grandma.”

Back home we walked Emmi and I stopped in to visit with Mom.  Thanks to everyone who left supportive comments about our Federal Express fiasco.  I am going to continue to harass with phone calls but as someone said—not worth fighting in the courts for $140!!

Happy Birthday LoraLee—hope it was a good one!

  1. I was told that back when South Vietnam fell, there were many well to do Vietnamese who came to the Palacios area and built nice homes and bought shrimp boats. Some of the homes can be seen on Hwy 35 in Palacios.

  2. Hi Janna, If U get a receipt marked paid when a shipment is sent they cannot charge you more. I also use my credit card as the company will also back us up if they try to charge more. I use my card as an added security. I ship a lot to Oh-ho. By paying them it will be harder to get a refund, but you should still try.

    Howdy Janna & Mike, &Emmi,
Janna, I heard just last week that Fed-Ex is just about to go broke so that may be the reason for backcharging anyone who paid cash or wrote checks.. They know they can get away with it where they won't fight the credit card companies; they intimidate you by saying they will turn it over to collection agency and RUIN your credit rating!!! They know people will protect their credit and PAY !!!
Hope you can get some satisfaction!!! Give Ms Emmi a hug & pay for us!!!

  4. Too bad the Outrigger Bar and Grill was closed. You'll be there for some time yet so the opportunity will present again.

Nice marine photos. Reminds us of salmon fishing boats that we find all over the west coast of British Columbia, Alaska and Washington State.

  5. Great photos of those old buildings and the boats in the harbour. Harass the heck out of FedEx, they deserve it.

  7. Looks like a great runaround day! Hope your Fed Ex fiasco gets straightened out.

Did you know if Fed Ex and UPS merged, they would be called FED UP ?
