A Great Summer Day

Michael and I got a late start on our walk this morning and were late getting back.  The reason—I made cinnamon rolls before we left--IMG_7632 Gina and Rollie were outside on the deck when we returned, the cinnamon rolls still intact—when I asked them why they hadn’t sampled the rolls, I got this answer, “they were too pretty to mess up.”  Well, we certainly sampled them to the tune of almost the whole pan—they were delicious!!!!!

Gina and I then headed downstairs for more quilting lessons.  Gina learned how to make binding strips and apply those strips to a “fake” quilt.  She also cut out another project—a table runner.  I think she is hooked!

Yesterday when we turned the water into the ditch for irrigating purposes the water slowly began to fill the ditch.  Emmi saw the water, jumped down in the ditch and began to run toward and bark at the water—it was the most comical sight!IMG_7597

Rollie and Michael worked on the cabinets from the little toyhauler trailer we purchased while Gina and I quilted.

Nat came for lunch and we had a wonderful meal—grilled chicken that had been marinated in a new sauce I got at Costco—balsamic vinegar/citrus—gave the chicken a great flavor.  We also had fresh green beans, asparagus, and rosemary/garlic roasted potatoes.  For dessert we sampled Rollie’s cream cheese pound cake and here is the recipe for the cake:

Cream Cheese Pound Cake

1 ½ cups butter softened
1 (8oz) cream cheese softened
3 cups of sugar
6 large eggs
3 cups all purpose flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract

Beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar beating well.  Add eggs, 1 at a time beating until combined.

Combine flour and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating at low speed until just blended after each addition.  Stir in vanilla.  Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch bundt pan.

Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool in pan on a wire rack 10-15 minutes; remove from pan, and let cool completely on wire rack.

After our late lunch Michael and Rollie drove over to the West Boulder to look at an excavation job.  According to Rollie, Michael almost killed him hiking straight up the side of a mountain.  Rollie also said that if he had known they were going mountain climbing he might have found something else to keep him busy!! :)))IMG_7633 He does look kind of tired and grumpy doesn’t he???

Our hearts and prayers are with our Canadian friend JB who lost another brother two days ago.  May the memories you shared comfort you John.

  5. The memories are great but I am going to miss his commentary when my memories got a little off track. I haven't been an only child for 57 years and already I know I don't like it. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers though.
