We Made Some Tracks Today

Yep, the cowboy got behind the wheel of this ole motorhome about 6:15am and he didn’t stop until about 5pm—over 600 miles later—kind of like the “horse going to the barn” except in the opposite direction!

Just outside Billings we ran into this:

icy roadsand those nasty roads stayed with us for about a hour then it was smooth sailing on dry roads the rest of the day.  Nearing Cheyenne, WY, the winds grew stronger and stronger.  We saw one of those over the highway lighted signs which said, “Caution, 50mph winds near Cheyenne”  YIKES!!  Michael didn’t think the wind gusts were quite 50mph but we were rocking!  At about 2:30 we almost called it a day in the small Wyoming town of Chugwater at a I25 rest area but the cowboy wasn’t tired and wanted to press on.

Tonight we are in Fort Collins, CO for more reasons than the cowboy wanting to drive.  Emmi is sick.  Last Wednesday Emmi developed a severe cough—she sounded like a honking goose—but she was eating (sort of), drinking and playing.  We thought she might have barked at a ball for too long???  I had some prednisone the veterinarian had given me for her back issue and I gave her one of those pills Wednesday and Thursday.  Not much improvement and on Friday evening we saw our local vet, Kirk.  He too thought she might have irritated her trachea with barking at the ball and upped the prednisone dose plus he gave her some pain/cough suppressant pills.   That was Friday—and while she is better, she is not right with the world.  She is still coughing with any exertion, wakes up coughing in the mornings and isn’t eating normally for Emmi.

So—I called the Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine and we have an appointment at noon Wednesday.  Our vet at home said if she didn’t improve she would probably need an endoscopy—look down her throat with a lighted scope—a veterinary college is the place to get those things done!  Emmi is only five years old and she is our baby girl—and we are very worried!

We landed in a fabulous spot—Horsetooth Reservoir State Park with full hookups!!!  It was just getting dark when we rolled in but the cowboy did an excellent job of getting our long rig into one of the sites.  The weather forecast isn’t for 70 degrees and sunny but it is forecasted to be in the upper 50’s with no moisture for the next week or so—we will take it until we get Emmi on the right track.

Tucked in for the night, electric heaters going, hot water heating—we are doing OK.

  1. Sure hope that Emmi gets better soon. Not fun watching your "baby" sick particularly when they cannot tell you about it.

  3. I sure hope Emmi's problem isn't serious and she gets OK. It worries us sick when Ms Megabyte2 gets sick. You landed in a great place , that vet school will get her going in short order. I almost enrolled there many, many years ago. Good luck!

  4. You will be in great hands with the folks at CSU! I have had experience with them. We live in Loveland and I retired from CSU. Hugs to Emmi, wishing her all the best and many, many more years at barking at balls!

  5. Nice that the roads got better, and the temps are looking OK too. Now get Emmi fixed up, and nothing like taking her right to the experts in her big pink bus.

    1. Yes, Sally, she could have inhaled something--she is always chewing on a stick or a ball! It feels great to be on the road again even if we are still a little chilly!!

Best wishes with the balance of your drive south too.

  12. That is quite the long haul for your first day! Getting out of the snow and getting Emmi to the best medical care are big motivators for sure. I'm sure they will treat her like the princess she is and have her back to normal soon.
