Leaving, Not Leaving, Leaving, Not Leaving

Sunday was a miserable weather day in our neck of the woods, sunny but so awful cold and a foot of snow on the ground.  We both worked most of the day packing and getting things situated in the house.  Nancy and Max came over after lunch and we had sewing machine lessons for getting their Christmas rag quilts started.

After Nancy and Max left we decided to head into Nat’s with the rig, spending the night in his driveway, getting an early start today, Monday.  It was so incredibly cold last night plus this morning we woke to a dense fog.  And anyone who thinks they can stay warm in a RV at minus 7 degrees better think longer!!!  Our Hydra-Hot heating system ran all night as well as an electric heater—but it’s a good thing we had fleece sheets and an electric blanket!!  We decided to postpone our departure until about noon.

As you are driving away from home on any trip, you make lists in your head, “did I forget anything??”  Well, before we had even made it 3 miles Sunday afternoon I realized I had left my wedding rings, favorite bracelet and favorite earrings on the bathroom counter.  What I didn’t realize until this morning was my makeup bag was also on the bathroom counter.  This southern girl doesn’t go anywhere without makeup!!  So, while Michael was puttering with checking tires, adding anti-freeze, etc., I headed back up the Boulder in Nat’s truck to retrieve my forgotten items plus some warmer clothes for the cowboy.

When I returned to Nat’s, Michael had made the decision to wait until Tuesday morning for departure, the temps were to be about 30 degrees by that time, much better than one above!!  We had lunch in Big Timber and retrieved Nat from the Senior Center.  It was warming up some so Emmi and I got out and took a walk around Nat’s neighborhood—we were both frozen when we got back!  IMG_0040Nat’s viewIMG_0041

Nat’s nearest neighbors, Amber and Julian have a stupendous Christmas light display every year.

And EmmiIMG_0043 seems to like hanging out at Granddad Nat’s!

  3. The upside of bad weather is knowing how totally great your going to feel when you get to good weather. I see the big trailer behind the motorhome. Are you taking a load of snow to Arkansas for the folks at Christmas:)) And your right about not being able to stay comfortably warm in an RV at -7. Insulated or not the cold just radiates through those thin walls. Sounds like you will be on the road bright & early.

  9. Wow, that is COLD!!! It sure is beautiful, but definitely time to head south! One of the reasons we decided to go full-time was that I was tired of packing and unpacking the trailer and trying to think of what I had forgotten before we got too far away from home. Happy and safe travels! :-)

  10. Thank goodness for the Hydrohot.... Us mere mortal folks with smaller RVs only have forced air LP heaters.. My pipes would have been frozen and broken... Hope you are a long ways on down the road once you see this.... Rod

  11. So glad it's warming up enough to make a safe getaway! I know the feeling of relief at remembering something "nearly" forgotten - and being so grateful to have them in-hand when you do take off :-)
