No, that’s not how long Michael and I have been married!! But Michael graduated from high school in 1963, fifty years ago. It is rodeo weekend in Big Timber—a big event for our small town and it’s even bigger this year with the class of 1963 celebrating fifty years. Sixty plus young men and women graduated with Michael and the reunion is well attended.
This afternoon we gathered at Sox Ullman’s lumber yard to build the parade float—this is a very basic float—hay bales and some printed signs, no rose petals on this float. Michael’s family lived 25 miles from town. When Michael was in high school and playing sports he lived in town during the school year with family friends and acquaintances. His senior year he lived in the home of his classmate Sox Ullman.
We enjoyed the rest of the evening visiting and eating. Tomorrow is the rodeo parade followed by a catered dinner once again at Sox Ullman’s.
These three are trouble, particularly the two on the left Sarge and Royal. The man on the right is Ron—he also lived up the Boulder—once when he and Michael were teenagers they were working on a car—Michael was under the car when it fell off the blocks pinning him. Ron lifted the car enough for Michael to squirm out. A scar on the right side of Michael’s face is the only injury he had.
Sox (owner of the lumber yard)—they all three seem to be saying, “is that float gonna be safe for us to ride on???”
aint small towns great
ReplyDeleteWow 1963 that is about the time I was born lol. Have fun at the reunion.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful reunion and good time for all! Enjoy! Looking forward to pictures of the float in the parade...hint!
ReplyDeleteClass reunions in small towns are so much fun - well at least the 40 or 50 year ones. I still have 4 years to go for my 50th and we probably will hold it in Billings rather than Sidney. With the oil craziness going on over there - we try to avoid it. Looking forward to seeing some fun parade pictures.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than catching up with old friends. Enjoy your weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that there are still so many people still around in a small town after 50 years. Just shows what a great place to live it is.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a gathering next week for my 50th high school reunion from Augusta MT. There were only 20 in my class. It is so much fun to gather a share memories. I love seeing the pics and know you are having a great time.

ReplyDeleteI graduated in from Eatonville High School in 1959. There were 41 in our graduating class. I attended the same school all 12 years. I didn't go to our 50 year reunion, but went with my husband to his 50 year reunion. I knew more people there then he did. Why? because, I lived in Estacada, Oregon and managed the funeral home there for nine years. Joe graduated from Estacada High School in 1960. Both Eatonville an Estacada, were and still are small towns.
