Not What We Wanted To Hear

During Michael’s procedure today, the urologist discovered he has a bladder tumor—he was confident the tumor was a form of cancer he called a “nuisance cancer”—he removes the cancer in an outpatient procedure then the patient has the “nuisance” of coming back for a checkup procedure every three months for a while.  We have some more tests next week, then the removal procedure on October 25.

We went to dinner tonight at the BrewHouse in downtown Billings—Michael had a great burger and I had a tomato/basil pizza.  I tried to talk him into going to Costco and getting one of those chocolate cakes and we could both just eat the whole thing but couldn’t convince him!  He has more willpower than me!

Emmi and I took a long, long walk around the neighborhood after dinner admiring all the old houses.

That’s our news today on my dear sweet Michael’s birthday.  Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, please keep them coming.

  1. Happy Birthday to Michael. Sorry to hear the news of a tumor. I hope all will go well with the removal. Too bad you did not get the cake though. I would have liked to help you eat it ☺

  2. Janna and Mike, I know this is not the news you WANTED to hear but, fortunately, it is a diagnosis - a good thing in itself - with the high probability of a good outcome. But... I do agree about the cake. I mean, what a great excuse to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

  3. That sucks but sounds like they caught it early and it will only be a nuisance. Our prayers are with Mike and you.

I have recently read your entire blog, from start through today. I have to tell you, I have enjoyed every day of it and laughed, cried and prayed for you both. You don't know me but I feel I know you so well from your descriptions of your everyday life.

I have sent links to your blog to a cousin who could be one of your best friends. She quilts, is retired from teaching and bought a long arm quilter, same brand as you own. She so enjoys it, just like you!!

I just wanted you to know, I am sorry that you got the news you did today, I know it is dis-heartening to learn the diagnosis and puts fear in every cell in your body. But, I know from experience that it can be ok.

My dad was diagnosed with the same thing many years ago and after surgical procedure he received chemo for several rounds. The tumors came back and he had them removed a second time and again went through another round of chemo. He was then clear each visit after that. He reached the 5 year mark without a return of the tumors. Unfortunately he also suffered from congestive heart failure and had another heart attack and did not survive.

At the time, we met so many people who told him that they had gone through bladder cancer and were doing great.

I do hope you're experience is the same and Michael will get good care. I will be praying for you both.

I also have to tell you, I have a Yorkie, I love her dearly and I have so enjoyed your sweet pictures of Emmi. Give her a little hug for me!!

  10. Happy Birthday, Michael. It might be that finding that tumor is the best present of all. Happened to me, too - mine was found in time and I've been okay for 20 years now. It's scary at the time, but I never even think about it anymore. I'm praying for the same outcome for you. God bless.

  11. Happy Birthday Michael. It's a little late but better late than never. :-) I'm so sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis but glad to hear they caught it in the early stages. We'll be praying for you and Janna. BIG HUGS.....Pat

  12. Hey Michael, our birthdays are one day apart:)) If there is an upside to your condition it is that fact that you now know who your enemy is. Before Wednesday you did not have that information & could not fight back against whatever it was that blindsided you. Now you have that info & like they say, the best defense is a strong offense, so now you can muster your troops together for a strong well organized hard hitting attack on your adversary. Hang in there Buddy, the Bayfield Bunch is thinking of you & sending all their best encouraging thoughts. (had trouble posting the first comment so hope it doesn't appear twice)
