Bear Art Quilt Finished And Thieves

IMG_0582All done, ready for quilting—I just love this technique—easy to do except for fussy cutting all those flower shapes.  This pattern was created by Laura Heine owner of Fiberworks quilt shop located in Billings, MT.

IMG_0586IMG_0587A product called Steam A Seam by the Warm and Natural Company is a double sided fusible web.  This fusible stuff is fused to the back side of a floral or geometric print, the shapes are fussy cut then fused again to a background piece of lightweight fabric.  So fun to do and no sewing machine required.  Laura densely quilted her example hanging in the shop with straight lines so that the edges of all the shapes are captured.

We went to happy hour at Mike and Pat’s and they tell us someone tried to steal a cargo trailer in the park late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.  On the way to Mike and Pat’s we had noticed this guy who has three cargo trailers sitting on his extra lot had removed all the tires from the trailers and had them sitting on jack stands—thought this was strange until we get to Mike and Pat’s and hear the story of the thieves—it was this same guy’s trailer the idiots tried to steal!!  The thieves didn’t even get out of the park with the trailer, it went sideways into a ditch—perhaps they tried to haul it out of here just chained to a pickup trailer hitch ball???—the guy had one of those ball hitch locks on the trailer and it was still attached when the trailer was found in the ditch.  Mr. Clark has our trailer all locked up, down and sideways!!

The cowboy is starting to slowly pack things away—stuff we won’t be using such as the card table and chairs we purchased at a garage sale.  After finishing the bear quilt I packed away the sewing machine and various other sewing paraphernalia leaving out only the cutting mat and rotary cutter.  My next project is a rag rug—Michael built a frame, I have the book and lots of denim fabric I cut from old blue jeans before we left MT in December.

Mother Nature hasn’t realized the month of March is gone and it’s now time for spring showers NOT wind!  The wind has howled all day and is still blowing hard rattling our awnings.  It was still a good day in the desert.

  2. Fantastic! I love your artwork... I love colors, textures and shapes! I don't think the bear is my totem, but wish it were.... as your rendition is so wonderful. As for the thefts.... bah! wonder what people are thinking of?

  5. Gorgeous quilt. That could probably rank up there under stupid robbery people. Sure glad they didn't get away with anything. We didn't have any wind down here today. But it's going to be hot this week.

  6. Great job of "finding" the bear in that fabric! I love how each leg is a different color - very special. Glad the would-be thieves were unsuccessful. Karma's a b*%ch and they will get theirs for sure. Temps in the 60's last week move to the 90's this week. Spring is never predictable in SoCal :-).
