Cold In The Desert

We are usually still in Montana this time of year—one year we headed to Mexico right after Thanksgiving but that’s the earliest we’ve ever headed south.  We’ve been told December is the coldest month of the year in Arizona and if the last few days of November were any indication, December could be cold!  It was 32 degrees this morning and we were very thankful for our warm, snug house!  Sunday a bitter, cold north wind blew all day—when walking Emmi I was bundled up as if I were still in Montana!

We are still puttering—I’m getting ready to teach my first yoga class on Tuesday—loading music onto my iPod and for once iTunes cooperated—amazing!  I’ve also been working on sequences for the class—to say I’m a touch nervous would be an understatement!

Michael is making steady progress with the cabinets—each cabinet must be taken apart, cut to fit the space, re-glued and then hung.  It’s very, very time consuming but so worth it when you consider the cost of new cabinets.

When I graduated from high school, Mom and Dad gave me a beautiful watch—I’ve worn one since then.  When working as a nurse, of course I wore a watch.  So many people these days depend on their phones for telling time but I still prefer my watch and Thanksgiving Day the battery in it died.  I just wasn’t in the mood to travel to Wickenburg until today—who knew there was a little jewelry store in Wickenburg—they fixed me right up!

At Safeway I gathered a few groceries before stopping at Donna and Barry’s to drop off some mail for them.  Back home I opened the latest Walmart box which contained two huge rolls of contact paper—it’s been a long, long time since I used contact paper.  The shelving in these cabinets has seen some wear and I thought contact paper would make the shelves not only look better but make them easier to keep clean.  Well—by the time I had three shelves lined I had wrapped contact paper around my head, said a few choice words and wondered why in the world I thought this was a good idea! Winking smileGeez!

Sunset puts a glow on our mountains.

DSCN1840The lemon tree is loaded, as is the orange tree.  The dwarf grapefruit tree only has 3-5 fruits.

  1. Wonder why people would think hauling out a phone to check the time could be any easier than simply glancing at one's wrist with this amazing device on it that tells one at a quick glance the actual time of day. I've worn one of those amazing time telling wrist devices since I was a small boy & wouldn't leave home without it. Yep, dam cold in these here parts alright!!

  2. I've always worn a watch too. Never think of checking my phone. Now I'd sure like some of those lemons. There's an orange tree on my lot here, but I only see about five oranges on it. Guess I'll have to see how to take care of it. Can't remember the last time I used contact paper. :( Hard to keep out wrinkles on it for me.

  3. I found some cool old fashioned print contact paper to line the shelves in those old cabinets I restored. It's going on three years and they scrub up so nice.... good for you to line the shelves, even if you did wrap your head a few times!

  4. I got rid of my watch many, many years ago and it really helped my stress level. I've never looked back. Now in retired life I rarely need to know the time:) Love it!

Good luck with that contact paper:)

  9. All that cold has me rethinking our Arizona plans for January and February. My watch reminded me too much of work. I took it off, and placed it on a hook of my dresser the day I retired. It's still there with a dead battery. Time is not that important to me now, other than appointments. For those, I use my phone. Bet you'll do great at the Yoga.

  12. My watch is a very pretty piece of simple jewelry, and I kept it, but haven't worn it since hitting the road. And we're always "on time" if there's a need for it :-))) It was so cold in Beaumont last night, but much nicer here "on our way to Q" for a couple days. Oh contact paper :-( I have such yucky memories of getting it in our shelves years ago. Although I do love the final effect!! Hope the yoga class was fun and that you're looking forward to teaching the next one already.

  13. I like a watch. I like my iPhone. I like my iPad. And I like my lap top. All units give the time but I still prefer a watch.

It is cool down where you are. And yes, late November and December are cold desert months. To be in the house now was good timing on you parts.

Look forward to seeing photos once the Reno is completed.
