We Discover Gainsville

Woke to the wonderful sound of rain on the roof this morning and we certainly don’t begrudge Florida a rainy day every now and then—it is so dry here.  It not only rained, it poured at times.  Decided it would be a good day to check out the city of Gainsville.

Leaving Ms Emmi home alone we headed out about 10am—it is about 58 miles to Gainsville, much closer to us than any larger city we frequent in Montana!  First stop was Sam’s Club for some produce such as grapes and cases of water.  A very quiet Sam’s Club!  Gainsville has anything one might want except a Costco!

The mall was our next stop, yours truly needed some girly kind of things—makeup, etc. which Wal Mart doesn’t carry—time to shop at a “real” store!  Michael was very patient sitting in the jeep with his big Sudoku book he got for Christmas.

We tried a local restaurant/brewhouse for lunch, BJ’s—it was delicious.  Michael had a huge platter of nachos and I had a big salad with chicken.

Last stop was Petsmart—Emmi has been bitten by three ticks since we’ve been down here in spite of having a dose of that Frontline stuff in place.  I wanted to see if there was anything better—there is a veterinarian in this particular Petsmart and they recommended a tick collar in addition to the liquid flea/tick monthly application.  The vet said the products such as Frontline and Advantix don’t work as well for ticks.  So hopefully she won’t have “any more bugs on her!”  I must say Arizona doesn’t have ticks, fleas, alligators or water moccasins!!  Maybe that’s telling us something???  Nope, we are staying put.

Emmi was thrilled to see us as usual—we managed to get in a short walk between rain storms.  Dinner was pork tenderloin on the grill, lima beans for me, peas for Michael and a grilled tomato for me.  Can you tell my husband likes different things to eat than me??  At least I am accommodating!

Another great day in Florida!  And warm!

  1. If you haven't found it yet, there is a great sinkhole in Gainseville, think it is called Devils Sink. It's beautiful, with a nice small trail and steps down into the sinkhole. Payne's Praire isn't too far from there either with a photo of gators worth seeing, and of course just a little bit east of there you can go to the house where Marjorie Kinan Rawlings wrote "The Yearling". Beautiful place.
