It Gets Harder and Harder

To think of something to write when you did the same thing all day which you did yesterday.  Mom and I did go to church this morning and enjoyed a wonderful service led by a guest minister, also a woman as is the regular minister.

The rest of the day I spent with Emmi and I quilted.  I’m about half finished with Jeane’s quilt and it’s looking great.  My little quilting trailer air conditioner is working well, keeping me cool while I quilt along.

Our next door neighbor Paul (Emmi’s boyfriend) came home this evening while I was sitting outside.  I told him Emmi got too hot chasing the ball today, going to sit by the steps of the motorhome as if to say, “let me in where it is cool.”  Paul said, “she’s not a Texas dog!”  And that’s about right isn’t it!

Can you tell me where this photo was taken JB??

And yes Don, one of the photos in last night’s blog was taken in Texas—Brazos Bend State Park.

Not A Thing Going On Around Here

Literally, not a thing.  The most exciting thing which happened today at least for Emmi—her boyfriend came home!  Our neighbor, Paul, also works for the same company as Rollie and Michael do—he has the same schedule, two weeks on, one week off.  Paul and his wife have three schnauzers—Paul has been in love with Emmi and she with him since they first met.  If she hears his truck come home, she has a fit until I let her out to say hello.  He went back home during his week off and I think Emmi missed him!

Other than that, I have quilted, Mom has sewed and it warmed back up significantly—the air conditioners are running again. IMG_6369

Nothing To Talk About

Just one of those days—we slept in, which is a good thing for us two early risers—what are people doing in RV parks at 3am slamming doors???  I was awake at that time removing those blasted wraps on my legs and someone is outside slamming rig and vehicle doors.  Rollie said he heard someone yelling just after 2pm.

I’ve quilted all day except for a quick run to Wal Mart this afternoon.  Walked Emmi and played ball of course.

We had some sad, sad news from home today—our friend and neighbor Roger died of a heart attack last night.  He and Michael kind of grew up together, Roger’s family moved to our valley in 1949—when Michael was 4 years old.

I am off to quilt some more as my husband won’t be home until midnight—that’s the price you pay for sleeping in! Smile

Over on Judy’s  Travels With Emma her grandson’s teacher came up with an ingenious idea!  She has the kids sending “Flat Joey” around the world.  Seems a bulletin board fell on him and flattened him.  Now he is being sent to people like Judy with instructions, “Grandma, please take Flat Joey on some adventures then send him back to us.”  What a great idea!

Tortured

Warning—this blog contains whining—don’t read the first three paragraphs if you don’t want to hear my whine!

IMG_2646This is what we looked at for almost six hours today, traffic and more traffic—this was modest, about noon, it was a zoo in Houston!!!  I had another appointment with the torture chambers of the vein clinic today for procedures with a fancy name: ultrasound guided sclerotherapy.  A solution which burns just a mite is injected into the varicose veins which didn’t get fried last week—guided by ultrasound.

The PA (Physician’s Assistant) who performed the procedure was very adapt and a doll!  When she was finished with this fancy sounding procedure she said, “I have some of the injectable left, would you like me to inject some of the visible spider veins?”  Of course I said yes!

OK—on to the whining.  I had to get the short pants out as in shorts—my legs are now encased in the very tight thigh high support stockings AND both my legs are wrapped with a layer of elastic type bandage called koban.  AND this VERY young PA wants me to now apply a heating pad to my legs!  Does this VERY young PA not understand it is 80 degrees outside and I am menopausal????

OK—done with whining.

We enjoyed a very good lunch at the Salt Grass Steakhouse—very good!  And on to Aransas Pass to relieve Mom of Ms. Emmi.

Here’s a shot of Michael working hard one night this week:

More On The Dentist

Thanks to all of you who commented voicing skepticism about my dental diagnosis yesterday.  I have every intention of seeking a second opinion—I want to go to another dentist, have an exam with x-rays and see if the second dentist says the same thing.  I sincerely think the dental insurance is a total rip-off.  The paperwork which accompanied the plan stated for each dental procedure what dollar amount we would be responsible for.  Those amounts were extremely reasonable leading us to our decision, subscribing to the dental insurance.  Well, the paperwork doesn’t tell you for every dental procedure there are more secondary charges for which you are totally responsible.  Things such as “dental lab fee,” “root prep”, etc.—you get the picture, a total rip-off!!  I was not impressed with the dental office and that particular office is the only one in this area for this insurance plan.

If I indicated in last night’s blog that I thought my root canal failed because I had the work done in Mexico, that was not my intention.  As Rene pointed out, he too had a failed root canal and the work was done in Canada. Would I go back to Mexico for dental work—probably.  But I probably wouldn’t go back to where I had the original work performed.  Rene kindly shared the name of his dentist in Algodones—maybe next time we head to AZ I will try him.

Today was spent quilting and sewing.  Mom is making a little baby quilt like the one I made a couple weeks ago for a friend back home.  I finished one quilt, packed it up with the one I finished a week ago and sent them off to their owner in Montana.  Got another one loaded onto the frame for Jeane.

Michael and I are deciding we might just like these weird hours—noon to midnight.  At least in the morning you don’t have to get up to an alarm clock—you can just sleep in, take your time getting ready, take a stroll with the dog, etc.  Michael is sleeping better, too.

IMG_6500My geraniums are just gorgeous—amazing for the first of April.

IMG_6503I just know if I stare at that ball long enough it will move, I just know it!!

The Dentist

Michael’s job comes with dental insurance—Mom and I went for our consult today.  Yep, consult—the office would not make an appointment even for a cleaning unless you came in for a consult first.  So---two and one half hours later we have both had our consults and you know what—neither one of us was pleased with the results!! Sad smileMom knew she needed one crown but came out knowing she needed three crowns and a couple fillings.  I came out into the waiting room and said to Mom at about noon, “I need a drink, maybe two!!!”

Seems my Mexican root canal has failed, the tooth needs to be removed Sad smilefollowed by either a bridge or implant!!  Double YIKES!!  So far I have no symptoms from this tooth.  And let me tell you, dental care even with insurance is outrageous!

That’s all I did today—Mom and I enjoyed another great pizza at Grimaldi’s, we did a little browsing in the mall and came home.  When she started making supper for Chuck she realized she was out of propane—Emmi and I ran over in the golf cart and changed out the tanks for her.

Back To Quilting

Yep, I was back to quilting at least I was after I did the laundry in our brand spanking new laundromat two spaces over from our RV site, bathed Emmi and did a little cleaning.  Michael left for work about 11:30am and Mom came over just after noon to sew.  It is 7pm as I am writing this and I’m thinking this is going to be a very long evening until Michael gets home.

This evening after the temps started cooling I washed the windshield and re-attached our snap on window shades.  They really do help with the heat from the sun.

Just wrote the checks for our taxes—that was an ouch this year!  When Michael and I first started traveling during Montana winters his Dad would retrieve our mail and pay our bills—we would then reimburse him.  In later years we put LoraLee’s name on our checking account, she received our mail then wrote the checks.   In the last few years we’ve had internet banking and boy does it make life easier!  It’s one of the things I like best about the internet world.  Michael was resistant for a long time but the ladies in our small, hometown bank convinced him it was the way to go.

I booked a condo for our gathering in late April—the ladies with whom I worked at Kimberly-Clark are coming to see me!  And Emmi gets to go!  It is located over by Corpus Christi on a canal near the beach—a beautiful condo—we should have a great time!

These are more photos from our week at Brazos Bend State Park.
